Salt is bad for your health do you think? You could change your mind by practicing halotherapy; an unusual therapeutic method based on natural salt. What does this therapy consist of and what are its benefits for the body and mind?
250 million years ago, all of Eastern Europe was covered by a sea. During global warming, it evaporated, leaving the earth to absorb the thick layer of salt that s was deposited there. These salt deposits were then exploited in the 19th century. Very quickly, the doctors of the time noticed that the miners who worked there were less affected by respiratory problems than the other workers of the time. It is following these findings that wellness centers exploiting the benefits of salt have developed in several of these salt mines.
Nowadays, salt caves have been created from scratch, including at the hotel-Spa “Les Violettes” in Jungholtz in Alsace, offering vitalizing and halotherapy treatments.
Halotherapy is a form of natural therapy practiced in a cave of natural salt crystals. The cave created from scratch reproduces the same microclimate with a high concentration of salt as a natural salt cave. Halotherapy tends to improve health and provide a better quality of life. In this salt chamber, salt crystals completely cover the room from wall to ceiling. The air is pure, bacteria-free and allergen-free.
Salt treatments are recommended for respiratory problems or even dermatological diseases. Indeed, this therapy is an effective and rapid means against respiratory problems (asthma, bronchitis or pneumonia). It also prevents colds and sinusitis. In addition, this natural salt method eliminates toxins while strengthening the immune system.
During a halotherapy session, you will only breathe sea air. This air, concentrated in minerals, trace elements and negative ions, penetrates the bronchi and relieves the respiratory tract. The skin also becomes impregnated with salt particles. This beneficial effect softens it, purifies it and heals it. Halotherapy is a good complement to the treatment and prevention of arterial diseases and vascular diseases such as hypertension, poor blood circulation, cardiovascular diseases.
Like a stay by the sea, having a one-hour halotherapy session is just as effective for recharging your batteries, relaxing and feeling good about your body. The salt cave is a cozy and warm place, lulled by subdued light. This atmosphere soothes the mind. It improves sleep as well as the faculties of attention and concentration. It is an effective way to fight against anxiety, depression or sadness. It stimulates the senses.
Good to know: it is contraindicated for people with hypotension and hyperthyroidism.
The benefits of sessions in the salt caves are attributed to the presence in the ambient air of minerals, trace elements and negative ions: magnesium, potassium, iodine, selenium, calcium, iron, zinc, copper, chromium, fluorine, lithium, silica , phosphorus, bromine, aluminium, vanadium, cobalt…
A halotherapy session brings you:
Salt therapy is gentle and natural. It is suitable for everyone, regardless of their age. Alone, as a couple or with the family, it is possible to do several halotherapy sessions. Come and discover the salt cave in our high-end Spa in the Haut-Rhin, for an unforgettable moment of relaxation.
And as a result, a beautiful promise: 45 minutes in a salt cave would have the same effect as a weekend by the sea!
